Notice The death has occurred of Michael ( Mick ) Carey. Michael was a long time life member of the Club. It is believed he originally joined the Club in the late 1950s and played Pitch & Putt all his life until four or five years ago . Pitch & Putt only started in 1953 when the cricket section ceased. When Michael joined in 1957/8 the Pitch & Putt was still in its infancy and confined to a 9 hole course in the winter time as the bottom half of the course was where our soccer teams played. I recall being at an important soccer cup match looking at the members playing P&P up and down the hill. Michael would have seen all these events in Ierne, the new Bar in the 60s , the Pitch & Putt getting an 18 hole course for the full year in 1963 , our new Clubhouse in the 80s with the amalgamation of Parnell Sq activities into Ierne Grounds, the purchase of the field with set up of Bowls section , new entrance etc. Michael had a very full life. He worked in CIE ( Dublin Bus Section ) , was a very good and competitive ballroom dancer in his earlier years where he won many trophies. and was also a proud member of the 3 rd Order TOSF. He died last week aged 94 and fittingly his funeral was from Adam & Eve Church. We extend our sympathies to his relatives. May he Rest in Peace
